Q: How does ZIRKEL Wireless High-Speed Internet service work?
A: We have a network of antenna sites installed in strategic locations throughout Northwest Colorado. These antenna sites have wireless access points that broadcast a signal to areas that have line-of-sight to our towers. Our Internet technicians will install a subscriber antenna at your location which converts the wireless signal into a standard Ethernet connection. Our Ethernet interface can plug directly into a single computer or a router.
Q: Do I need a phone line to use ZIRKEL Wireless as my internet provider?
A: No. A phone line is not needed to use our service. Our connection is delivered wirelessly via radio waves.
Q: How do I know if I am in the ZIRKEL Wireless coverage area?
A: Our high speed wireless internet technology requires line-of-sight to one of our antenna tower locations. You can view our list of antenna tower sites and coverage area description here. The BEST way to determine if your location is eligible for ZIRKEL Wireless High-Speed Internet, is to order service and schedule an installation. Q: What happens if I sign up, but l am not in the ZIRKEL Wireless Coverage area?
A: We will make our best attempt to become your wireless internet provider. If our installer can not obtain a quality signal, there is no cost or obligation to you. Unfulfilled orders are used to help us determine what areas we need to expand to next.
Q: Does the weather have any effect on your high speed internet?
A: No. Most local weather phenomenon (rain, snow, fog etc.) is not significant enough to interfere with the radio frequencies used by our network.
Q: Do you offer high speed internet routers?
A: Yes! Our router is built using all the latest standards and advanced WiFi technologies so you get the fastest possible speeds, every day. Contact us to learn more.
Q: Can I use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection with your service?
A: Yes our service is compatible with VPNs. Your VPN may require a static IP which is available upon request.
Q: Can I connect my XBOX, PlayStation, Wii or other network-compatible game console to your system?
A: Yes. If you install more than just a single computer, you will need to install a router to build a home network. If you need help doing this, please ask about our Managed WiFi service or contact a local support technician.
Q: Can I share my wireless internet connection with my neighbor or the office next door?
Q: Can I host a web server or any other kind of server on your network?
A: Although we do not ban servers on our network outright, we do not allow constant upload traffic (which could happen if you are serving lots of data) whether it be from a web server, peer-to-peer software or any other kind of server. Q: Is your system compatible with VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol)?
A: Yes, we enable a high priority data channel for VoIP traffic on our network.
Q: How much space do I get with my E-mail account?
A: Our email (firstname.lastname@example.org) is hosted by Google Apps and each email account has 15 Gigabytes of space.
Q: How is ZIRKEL Wireless’ service different from satellite service?
A: While both services are wireless, our network is local to Northwest Colorado. Our radio signals typically travel less than 10 miles to our facilities, while satellite system signals have to travel through the atmosphere, over 22,000 miles to the satellite and then 22,000 miles back to earth. That’s why satellite system users commonly experience latency or delays when connecting to the web.
Q: Is ZIRKEL Wireless’ service the same as DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)?
A: No. We use a technology called fixed wireless broadband and our network typically delivers faster speeds than most DSL connections in our region. Our fixed wireless service is an alternative to DSL. Instead of using outdated copper phone lines, we deliver our connection with a fixed wireless link. It usually takes 30 – 45 days to find out whether or not you are eligible for DSL. If you have line-of-sight to a ZIRKEL Wireless antenna site we can have your connection installed in about one week.
Q: Can I use Netflix, Apple TV, Hulu or other streaming video services?
A: Yes, if you choose a high-speed internet plan that is rated for streaming videos. Each of our internet plans offer different speeds and capabilities. Click here or on the services tab at the top of the page to view the details of each ZIRKEL Wireless Internet plan.
Q: Can I temporarily suspend my wireless internet service?
A: After you have completed your initial 6-month contract you may temporarily suspend your Internet service in calendar month increments for a maximum of 6 months. If you have not activated service at the end of the 6-month suspend period, your account will automatically be activated and charged based on your established billing frequency and previous rate plan. There is a flat fee of $29 to suspend service, and there is no fee to activate service upon your return. To request a temporary suspension of service please submit a request through our Customer Portal.
